The Mount Pearl Tennis Club offers adult and junior tennis lessons to its members.  The tennis coach would be responsible for:

  • creating a lesson plan,
  • conducting lessons,
  • maintaining the safety of the tennis courts and the club members.  

Applicants must have a tennis certification from Tennis Canada, have first aid training (required before the season begins), and be comfortable working with the public.  This position will run from June 17th to September 3rd.  Multiple assistant coaches will be hired, in addition to a head coach.

Detailed Job Description

The following duties are the responsibilities of the assistant Coaches:

  • Head Coach’s additional duties - To prepare lesson plans prior to the start of each week of lessons and submit them to the Executive. Enough flexibility should be present to allow for class differences in terms of ages, abilities and number of players. Supervise the Assistant Coaches and provide mentoring and instruction, as well as advise lesson program for each group in advance of giving lesson.
  • To answer inquiries regarding the Junior program that may be asked of you and direct any question that you feel you are not able to answer to the Head Coach or Club House Manager
  • To ensure that all persons in your assigned lessons are aware of the start date and times of their lessons and of any changes in class times and dates.
  • To teach beginner and intermediate Junior lessons as set out in the schedule arranged for the coaches.
  • To assist in an advanced program for the more advanced juniors in the club. This may include such things as team tennis, advanced lessons, etc. and may be subject to review by the Executive to determine the adequacy of the program(s) offered.
  • To report directly to the Clubhouse Manager. This includes updates on the progress of the program, matters you feel are inappropriate to handle yourself,
    and any matters you feel the Executive should have knowledge of.
  • To monitor and take steps to ensure that there is not an unacceptable number of balls being lost during lessons.
  • To promote the development of tennis in the club, in particular in juniors, by providing sufficient challenge in the program and by encouraging and promoting play.
  • To ensure that the courts are safe and playable.
  • To ensure that proper tennis club rules are followed at all times. (i.e. no swearing, no abuse of equipment, no jeans, etc.)
  • Other possible duties that will not differ significantly in character from those listed above.
    • To dry off the courts after precipitation using appropriate equipment while on shift
    • To use rainy days to complete any tasks requested by the Clubhouse Manager which may include cleaning the coaches room, event preparations etc.
